A basic lesson shape

  1. Warm-up: a quick chat in the target language.
  2. Review: recap the last lesson.
  3. New language: one clear aim, taught with examples.
  4. Practice: the learner uses it in speaking first, then writing.
  5. Wrap-up: summarise and set a small task.

Beginners (A1 to A2)

Keep the language simple, repeat often, use pictures and short dialogues, and get the learner speaking early.

Intermediate (B1 to B2)

Focus on speaking fluently, linking ideas and fixing common errors. Use real texts and discussion topics.

Advanced (C1 to C2)

Work on nuance, register, idiom and authentic material such as articles, podcasts and debates.

Review regularly

Every few weeks, check progress against the learner’s goal and adjust the plan.
