Start with a goal

Pick something concrete: a topic to master, a target grade, or confidence with homework. A goal gives you something to measure against.

Ask for regular updates

A short note every few lessons is enough: what was covered, what is improving, what to practise.

Look at the evidence

  • Homework getting done with less struggle.
  • Better results in class tests.
  • Your child asking questions rather than avoiding the subject.

Talk to your child

Ask what they find easier now. How they feel about the subject is often the earliest sign.

Act if it is not working

Give it a fair few weeks, then ask the tutor to adjust the approach. If nothing changes, a different tutor may be a better fit.
